ABOUT JIMMIE

I’ve Spent My Career Where Strategy Meets Delivery.

I’ve led major federal programs, advised government digital-service organizations, and helped product teams and leaders navigate organizational change.

Over time, one question kept getting bigger: Why do capable people using good practices still struggle to produce the outcomes they intend? That question increasingly shapes what I write about and the work I do today.

Jimmie Butler, strategist, author, and founder of StrategiX

Strategist. Author. Founder. Practitioner.

I’m the Founder & Principal Strategist of StrategiX, a government and GovCon delivery leader and advisor, and the author of Pursuing Timeless Agility and Deliver What Matters: Earning Trust by Redesigning Government Digital Delivery.

I’m interested in the conditions that shape how organizations work: how leaders make decisions, how product thinking connects effort to outcomes, and how trust, learning, and adaptability become part of everyday delivery.

The Perspective Came From Doing the Work.

Since 2010, I’ve been managing, mentoring, and coaching delivery in GovCon. My private-sector experience spans very small businesses through a billion-dollar company. The scale changed, but the work kept bringing me back to the relationship between leadership, teams, and the environment around them.

Government-contractor program leadership brought responsibility for delivery, people, client relationships, organizational health, and business performance—not just the adoption of a method. In USCIS and CBP environments, I worked across vendors and disciplines to connect strategic direction with the realities of federal digital delivery.

Advising client leaders, championing UX research and outcome alignment, coaching product-driven ways of working, and mentoring emerging leaders widened my perspective. Better team practices matter. So do ownership, decisions, signals, and the organizational conditions that make those practices possible.

HOW MY THINKING EVOLVED

The Question Kept Getting Bigger.

TEAM · Agile & Adaptation

How can teams respond and improve?

PRODUCT · Product Thinking

How do we focus on outcomes and value?

ORGANIZATION · Product-Led Thinking

How do leadership, ownership, delivery, signals, and decisions work together?

OPERATING ENVIRONMENT · ProductOps

How do we create better enablement around product delivery?

CONDITIONS · Current Work

What determines whether any of these practices can actually work here?

Earlier ideas weren’t discarded. The lens widened. Practices behave differently under different conditions—and understanding those conditions became a bigger part of the question.

Experience Behind the Perspective

Serious About the Work. Not Always Myself.

Jimmie Butler’s annual Christmas rap parody

I’m a husband, dad, and “Pop Pop.” Coaching my sons’ baseball and football teams and cheering on my daughter shaped how I think about leadership, teamwork, and what really matters.

My annual Christmas rap video parodies are an eight-year tradition and an unexpected icebreaker. I also enjoy reading, learning, and conversations that challenge my thinking. A great book recommendation is always welcome.
